E’er since I was a little kid, I always wanted to fly. My mama tells a story about how I had just barely learnt how to speak, and I skipped up to her and said, “I wanna fly.” Bein’ an adult she didn’t understand this strange desire of mine, and instead taught me to compensate by runnin’. So, since that day, I done exactly that. When I run, I fly. I feel the wind coolin’ the sweat on my hot face and blowin’ my hair in the breeze, makin’ me free. Runnin’ has caused a lotta arguments for me, ‘cause whenever I talk about flyin’ people call me crazy. That’s how I got the nickname Angelboy. But I don’t really mind anyway, I mean I wouldn’t expect them to understand. Sometimes runnin’ ain’t enough though. Once I tried to really fly, but Mama caught me on the rooftop and started screamin’ her lungs out. So, I stepped down from my golden pillar, pushed back my wings, and sat down. “I’m alright, Mama! Don’t you worry!” I sat there for a while, just watchin’. Watchin’ the sunlight escape from the evenin’ sky. I will fly one day, I just hope Mama understands why I did it, when it’s over.
I Watched the Lights Die by Piper Richards
I watched the lights die;
I watched as the lights died.
As a man came to the door.
He was tall with kind eyes.
Yet all the words he spoke were lies.
He spoke softly.
As to keep from crying.
I watched as the lights in her eyes, were dying.
The same light he loved her for.
And exit the man who came to the door.
